I've got a Rebel XTi and my one of my reasons getting an SLR camera was to photograph Sarah. Photography is really addictive especially when you don't get the results you wanted and you end up with blurry pictures. It drives me crazy when I see blurry pictures and mistakes I make, but it's also my inspiration to learn from those mistakes and be more creative.

Last August I was given the opportunity to use my SLR camera and here's one good pic I was able to take.

    SGIM_Bakersfield_Ralph_001.jpg

I'll post some tips later and maybe some basic tutorials regarding SLR cameras.
i got the same camera... how did you adjust it?i had the opportunity to take some pictures of SARAH in Baguio but some came out too bright...what iso did you use?

erm, brand of preference... Sony or Canon? first-ever i bought was a Sony W30 (just so i could take pictures during the BWN concert lmao).... medyo ignoramus pa kasi kung ano mga features dapat tingnan. dati, megapixels lang yung gauge ko. the higher, the clearer (and the better hehe). and it was small and handy...pwedeng ilusot sa security hehe. at color white pa sya. *grins* ang ganda ng mga reasons ko no? hahaha. i can sense the "pros" in da haus getting appalled already laugh.gif alt='' ] . but i wasn't satisfied with the zooming capability....dati, i ended up with a lot of blurred shots. sad.gif alt=':(' ]
hahaha! ako rin outrigger, i used to think the higher the megapix, the better. then by experience, nabibitinan ako sa zoom, so i started to look at zoom capabilities na. then my blunder became mistaking the digital zoom vs optical zoom naman. tongue.gif alt=':p' ] then powerful zooms eat up a lot of battery power, so ngayon rechargeable battery naman ang dumagdag sa list of considerations ko. it's a learning experience everytime. tongue.gif alt=':p' ]

anyways, share ulet ako... here's an old shot... taken last March 2007. was trying to be a little "dramatic", pero parang naging bland since the sky, the mountain range and the sea have more blue in them than any other color. tongue.gif alt=':p' ]
    Alegre2007046.jpg

testing ko kanina ng macro. that was the first time i've used that. alamat, bakit pag half press ko, parang wala namang diff kahit pag "full" press lang? uhm.gif
    IMG_0049.jpg
also, it is my angle kaya hindi nabuong malinaw yung keypad? hmmmm.... *butingting ulet*

sgp, outrigger, mukhang next sarah concert, ala M&L dad photos na kukuhanin niyo....

ang tip, sgp, today, if its digital, straight out of the cam pictures, if you want to display it in the net would be "post processed pa", meaning do photoshop to improve color, sharpness, etc.... kaya dont worry if the colors are not great, you can do it with software (your cam can actually do some of these things too, chnaging picture styles)

and bokeh, (bluriness) couldnt be seen on a point and shoot LCD screen, or the viewfinder, however you press it, on DSLR's theres a button on the camera that would "darken" the areas and show how the photo will look like, its difficult to adjust to it first, because all you see is a dark viewfinder (its because the lens blades actually closes to the correct aperture -lens opening-)

with regards to you why the keypad is not malinaw all the way, its because the chosen aperture is wide open (the lower the f number, the wider the aperture opening) get the exif file of your camera and you'll see it.

^ sgp ano ung nasa puno?
    about half press...hmn wait ha.

sgp halos parehas lang cam natin powershot at ixus.

about grainy/granularity...ISO speed...etong kuha na ito. ISO 3200 super high iso...super grainy din.
ano? para que? mas high iso mas sensitive sa light... low iso 80... mas fine pero less sensitive sa light. kaya kailangan maliwanag
    Picture105croped.jpg
gabi ung kuha na yan as in madilim talaga tapos wala pang flash...kasi nahiya ako kay Ms. Sarah.
sa manual setting ng poweshot mo pwede mo mapalitan ang setting ng ISO

    nadiskubre ko
    takes the red outIMG_1162.jpg
    IMG_1161.jpgin 60 seconds

sa manual ung setting tapos hanapin mo ung color accent!

ah, teka, basa-basa muna ako. i think i saw an article about that aperture ek-ek. biggrin.gif alt=':D' ] like how much light gets captured to establish the image? i should reread yung relation nya sa shutter speed, medyo nalolost ako. hehe!

about editing the colors in post-processing, i seldom use it kasi baka magmukhang fake yung pic eh. biggrin.gif alt=':D' ] di kasi ako magaling magblend or mag-differentiate ng colors, but i think i would know when i feel like some shade is missing. hehe! does that make sense? tongue.gif alt=':p' ]

    parang bintana
laki bintana - dami ilaw (pang bokeh - out-of-focus blur)
liit bintana - konti ilaw (dami focus/walang blur)

Unfortunately sa SLR lang ma-calibrate ng maigi yan.
tiyaga na lang tayo sa macro. hu hu hu

excited na ko sa weekend, gonna have some time to tinker with the cam, going out on a trip. eheheh!

i'll post new pics next week, ticher alamat! i stopped doing my assignment, na-frustrate ako kasi wala namang manual controls gaano dun sa cam ko. sad.gif alt=':(' ] that sounds like a nice excuse to get a new one. wehehe! sleazy.gif

^ naku wag ka ma-frustrate maganda yang cam mo.
hayaan mo nang wala masyadong chechebureche...
ang tip ko na lang eh
enjoy the trip and fire away! tapos gamitin mo ang mga natutunan mong 'composition' techniques
    tapos critic natin.. he he

i'll fire away.. i'm reading stuff on how to capture moving lights nicely. mukhang maraming kumukutitap na ilaw sa pupuntahan namin eh. laugh.gif alt='' ]

sige, i'll take as many pics as i can, tapos i-analyze natin dito. gusto ko talaga matuto! biggrin.gif

    ^ try this one.

    - use manual mode - symbol is 'M'
    - put it on low iso (100 or 80 lower better) - for extrafine quality
    - turn off flash - no shadow from flash - natural light epek
    - put shutter release on timer (2 sec or 10 or whatever)
    - if you don't have a tripod have it stand on its end. - so there will be no camera shake

then see what happens. - experiment on low light, bright light etc.
    - experiment on moving subject and still subject.
