I watched again for the 11th times YCML dito sa SM Lucena kaninang 2pm and 2 cinemas showing ito. Halos puno ang sinehan considering it's an ordinary day at di rin maganda yung time coz nasa offices and schools pa ang mga tao. I asked the takilyeras and they told me that YCML is like parang MMFF sa sobrang dami nang nanood. She siad that last Saturday and Sunday, these were the highest grossed these 2 cinema had. Talo daw ang mga blockbuster foreign films. Marami daw ang hindi agad nakakapasok coz sobrang puno na ang mga sinehan so they had to wait for the next screening. I'm sure nagpapagawa na ngayon ang Star Cinema and Viva Films ng story for the PART 3 of the SARAH-JL-Direk Cathy team-up.

My 6th "serving" of YCML last night. i was with 3 YCML recruits, puro officemates, galing sa iba't-ibang section ng office namin (advertising, news, human resources... o di ba, may variety ang hakot ko!) plus my ever-loyal best buddy. in fairness, sila ang laging nagre-remind sa akin last week pa re our YCML date. yung isa, pinahiram ko pa ng DVD ng AVSL because he didn't want to watch YCML na di siya makaka-relate.

So anyway, we watched at Gloreitta 4 and yup, chasechamp_21 is right, 3 ang cinemas na pinalalabasan ng YCML that time. nagulat nga ako kasi when I checked the sureseats site of G4, parang 2 lang ang YCML (ewan ko ha pero parang ganun or naduling na naman ako). we chose the 8:05 pm screening. umalis kami ng office ng 7 pm and arrived at G4 mga 15 min to 8 pm. when we were on our way to the escalator going to the cinema medyo kinabahan na ako kasi madaming tao. baka kasi sa YCML papunta, patay, wala pa naman kaming reserved seats kasi free seating ang 8:05 pm screening. eh, ah, as usual pagdating namin doon sold out na ang 8:05 pm na YCML. ang next na ay 9:45 pm. we were about to buy the 9:45 pm tickets when one of my officemates pointed to an 8:45 pm screening. nabigla ako kasi ang alam ko 2 lang ang cinemas alloted for YCML as per sureseats.com.

Nagbiro pa nga ako sa mga kasama ko na pakandungin na lang yung iba kasi parang lost na sila at wala na atang mauupuan. hehehe. puno as in puno. and i can feel the pain of those who had no choice but to be seated not beside their friends but between total strangers. ang hirap ata magpigil ng hampas pag may nakakatuwang eksena. sana, kung sino man ang mga nahiwalay sa mga friends nila ng upuan kagabi, wala silang nahampas na strangers. singhot. hehehe.

"Teleradyo, ikaw ba yan?" hahahaha. well, it's nice to know that humataw pa rin ang YCML despite its 2nd week of showing. aba yung Cinema 1 ng Glorietta na pang 8:05 pm screening, malaki kaya yun. pero sold out. yung mga late screenings (as per number of seats available sa monitor) baka di na mapuno pero understandable for a movie on its 2nd week at di pa sweldo at late na. pero let's see sa sat and sun screenings. YCML never fails to surprise us naman, di ba? pero galing talaga kasi yung mga screenings na talagang expected na pupunta ang mga tao, talagang humataw siya. yehey!

So after the movie, we stayed in one corner muna para antayin na maubos ang mga tao na pababa ng escalator. one of my friends said baka bumigay, eh. hahaha. habang nag-aantay, nag YCML analysis kami. ito yung mga sinabi ng mga kasama kong YCML recruits: (1) Laida Magtalas was really made for Sarah, and he couldn't imagine any other actress playing the role of Laida; (2) John Lloyd is really a good actor; (3) In our discussion, one of my friends asked if sarah attended workshop sessions, kasi magaling daw umarte, to think na she's known more as a singer; (4) since sarah came from GMA7 and transferred to ABS-CBN, one of my friends said that "itong GMA, sila ang nakaka-discover, tapos ABS naman ang nakikinabang... ABS ang nagpapa-shine ng artista"; (5) Cathy Garcia-Molina is a really good director; (6) a part 3 is not far behind... pwede pa raw guys at hindi pagsasawaan... a wedding plot na raw siguro [personally, i want a different vehicle for JLC and SG pero kung part 3 ang gagawin nila, ala naman akong problema dun]; (7) magaling ang pag-establish ng continuity ng YCML from AVSL... characters-wise (well-acted lahat na kahit mga minor players sa movie may audience impact pa rin), story and dialogues; (8) hands-down na mas nagandahan sila sa YCML [ako kasi naglalaban pa sa puso ko kung AVSL ba or YCML.... i can't decide pa lalo na pag naaalala ko ang videoke scene ng AVSL... Lord, help me talaga, pls...hehehe] kasi mas malaman at realistic daw.

We were already in the parking lot and still couldn't get enough of our experience (baliw na kaya ako? kasi madami nang beses akong nakapanood pero pag nagdi-discuss ako with others parang first time lang? hehehe). yun pa rin ang pinag-uusapan namin. eh, itong best buddy ko, meron na palang "Laida Bebe ko" ringtone. tawanan kami.

I had a blast (again!) and was super happy to have shared the "YCML experience" with my friends (na di naman maka-Sarah but took the time to watch her movie and had good words for her after watching it). Honestly, kinabahan ako kasi when I watched YCML just this Wednesday, March 4, (6:55 pm) at SM Southmall, hindi impressive attendance ng tao dun sa pinasukan kong cinema, probably because of the time and day and the fact na 2nd week na (and sorry pero di kagandahan ang cinema dun at malamok pa... paging the Department of Health, paki-fumigate ang cinema sa SM Southmall bago may magka-dengue sa audience, no!). pero nabura lahat yun with what I witnessed in Glorietta. itong YCML kasi pag may matumal na sinehan, bumabawi sa iba at mas mahal pa! weeeeeeee! cheers everyone! Let's break(dance) AVSL's record! kayang-kaya! cheers!

i enjoyed reading your kwento ashtin....thanks for sharing your experiences...

OK, here's my report on my 7th "serving" of YCML. Glorietta 4 uli, saturday, march 7. this time sa Cinema 1 naman which is bigger than Cinema 5 where i had my 6th "serving" of YCML. i was with my best buddy and we took the 9:30 pm screening (9:45 pm ba yun? basta). though we were already in front of the ticket booth i was hesitant to watch because the monitor indicated a low attendance in that screening (again, last full show ito and expected yan pag ganitong panahon, nothing to be alarmed of guys). eh, mas gusto ko na madaming tao sana pero i told my best buddy, for the love of sarah let's watch it na. in fairness mukhang puno yung naunang screening, based on the number of people na lumabas sa Cinema 1.

In the middle of the movie i decided to answer the call of nature and again, i was surprised to see that ay... madaming tao pala. the theater wasn't jampacked pero madaming tao. specially nung nagtayuan na. ayun, nakita ko na marami palang nanood despite the late schedule. for a big theater it was a sizable crowd, di tayo mapapahiya sa attendance. yung choice seats na-occupy lahat eh. at going on its 3rd week na ito, di ba? na-prove ko uli na may magic pa rin ang YCML. madami palang humabol na nanood when the lights went off.

I was extra happy rin because seated in front of us was a family of three. may little girl silang kasama and she enjoyed the movie. i guess the little girl adores sarah so much because she couldn't help but giggle whenever sarah did something funny on screen. nahuli ko rin yung mom niya na napangiti when the AVSL videoke film clip was shown. pati yung couple na katabi namin, aba, mas maingay pa yung guy kesa sa girl. ask ko tuloy ang friend ko, "Straight ba yung guy?" hehehe. yung sa left side ko naman na mag-barkada, parang Teleradyo style din sa pag-comment. at malakas ang kilig nila ha. nagsisikuhan tuloy kami ng best buddy ko sa aliw. then after the movie, nag-comment yung isang babae, "Nice movie." the atmosphere was light. alam mong nasiyahan ang mga nanood.

Quiebz!

Sana may ilabas nang figures ang Viva/Star Cinema or Box-office Mojo re YCML gross. cheers!

Gummy bears, yum yum, I can eat gummy bears all day.
Directed by Cathy Garcia-MolinaCast: John Lloyd Cruz, Sarah Geronimo, Rayver Cruz, Mikee Cojuangco

To show that thin line between love and stupidity is what good romantic comedies are for. But isn’t falling in love subjecting one’s self to stupidity? This dual existence, just to reiterate, of love and stupidity mocks the self-assuring belief that we human beings are the most intelligent creatures here on earth, that we can decide things fairly with our brain, mind over matter, sanity over madness, passion over narrowmindedness, and seeing over blindness, without losing our grasp on the fleetingness of this world, this world that has inflicted us the pain that only experience can give. While A Very Special Love describes love as a cosmic illusion that is still worthy to pursue, You Changed My Life gets pulled by gravity, stays on ground, and personifies love in its irresistible giddiness and intoxicating sweetness. Definitely this is Star Cinema magic at work.

It takes off from the excess sugar of the first one, picking every bit of sweetness from Laida Magtalas and Miggy Montenegro’s romance, details that cross over the second to remind us of the kilig, the sun dance, the lines from Smokey Mountain’s “Kailan,” which was more cleverly used in the previous, the melting stares, the good-natured raillery, and the smiles of a summer night. The sequel, plot-wise, focuses more on Miggy’s renewed relationship with his family, gaining the trust of his father but still troubled by his brother’s strictness. After the publishing business, he is now assigned as the general manager of their industrial laundry - - common scenario except that it is based in Laguna. That distance, that seemingly unproblematic distance between the two lovers, provides the narrative with a lot of space to roam around, small things that realistically speaking are what makes up a relationship. It sounds like a hollow idea, a simple truth to answer with << there is love in distance! >> but in their world, their rigidly dimensional world which seems to share a reality similar to ours, everything is a matter of time for things to sink in, and for love to come back again.

As it leans more on Miggy’s pressuring career decisions, now it is up to Laida to freshen things and alleviate the seriousness. Her youthfulness, though sometimes can easily be called dumb and cataractous, keeps us lighthearted; her carefreeness, which, again, puts her intelligent quotient way down, is acutely contagious. We can forgive her as long as she gets her man. Her character completes the main character of this sequel - - that while it is Miggy who provides the story its propelling events it is Laida who really touches us, her unrelenting wistfulness, her closed-mindedness, her kagagahan over Miggy who is handsome but stiff, wealthy but incomplete, romantic but paranoid. Aren’t we all attracted to the imperfect? Those damaged, awkward, and irresistibly attractive people? Oh why God created them.

Carmi Raymundo has to speed up the story by conveniently showing a photo-montage in the beginning and the necessary A Very Special Love flashback near the end, which is just wise to pump us with strength to hit our seatmates after the kilig overdose. She also adds elements that range from humorous to ridiculous. Some like the be-be ko ringtone and the number of seconds to kiss turn out to be very effective because they are placed well in the narrative, not just mere quirks of their characters. Laida’s wig is by all means irritating and her clothes are inconsistently attention-grabbing. The blabby officemates are still there; one wonders why they are still employed. An additional character, Cristina (Mikee Cojuangco), Art’s ex-girlfiriend, is quite good. When Art tells Miggy “I don’t want you to be like me. I want you to be better than me,” we understand what better means, what better than him requires. Despite Cristina’s utter grace emphasized by her heavenly dimples, it is difficult not to notice her overdone makeup.

Apparently this is not The Godfather. You need not have to see A Very Special Love to lead your way to You Changed My Life’s story. Strange how an unusual team-up, powered only by kilig, turns out to be the most effective pair in recent years; a complete story is barely necessary. Everything about John Lloyd Cruz is comely, his eyes, his gestures, his foolish dance moves, the priceless expression of jealousy on his face, dang, even his heavy eye bags become his asset. He knows his capabilities; he knows how to make good use of them. His maturity reflects on the character he plays; being the worst person to love multiplies the charm. Sarah Geronimo, on the other hand, is made to fit into the role of Laida Magtalas. She can make a green mango taste so sweet, sometimes even to the point of overdoing it. But there can never be anyone to play it better than her; her mix of fun, irritating mannerisms, and lightheadedness is simply delightful. Together, Cruz and Geronimo signify love at present - - or in present tense? - - changing, developing, faulting, building, their love that can never be done, just what true love is.

There is some hint of infinite glorifying in this review, especially when the author decides to end it in choosing a scene that exemplifies his bias on characters that think, people who allow time to overcome them, that when Laida speaks to Miggy in the end, realizing things, and tells him that they have their own separate world, own separate lives, own separate things to do singlehandedly, that they are not one, a thought difficult for couples to accept, and as Miggy mocks their previous ending with another kiss, now on the lips but unseen to us, we don’t have to see it anyway, the cliché mystery of it makes it all cloying yet pleasurable, the self-consciousness drowns with luscious remembrance, the formula still works, and yes, oh how sweet it is to be loved by someone, to be in love with someone and nobody else.
